Garbage headline. Nobody had assisted cruise control and lane keep assist for $35k in 2010. Tesla owners have that and better every day, and they use it every day, accruing billions of miles to train the algorithm. Tesla Autopilot directly pushed the rest of the industry into adopting assisted cruise control, lane keep assist, departure warning, front and back proximity sensors, etc. (not to mention pouring R&D into dashboards and center consoles, which are still mostly bad and nowhere near the smoothness of an iPad, but at least they're trying).

> Urmson predicted to Bloomberg that Aurora would be the first company to deploy self-driving technology for long-haul trucking routes at a "meaningful" commercial scale.

Tesla could do this tomorrow with Tesla Semi. Their hold-up is manufacturing and deploying a new electric vehicle, not developing self driving software which they already have. This is opposed to every other self driving startup in the space which has no practical driving experience and no commercial product to deploy on.

To say that meaningful advances in the space have not been made in the last decade is kind of weird. We are still far away from L5, but closer than we were before.
