I solve the spam problem by having my own domain with an infinite number of email addresses. Whenever I sign up for something I use [email protected], where PERMUTE is some easily-reversible permutation of the vendor's own name.
This has two benefits: I can easily route/filter incoming email from that vendor, and if I ever receive spam at that address I know which vendor sold my info.
