Ask HN: What's with that black bar at the top?

Anybody noticed that new black bar at the top of HN? Here's its HTML:

  <tr>
    <td bgcolor="#000000">
      <img src="s.gif" height="5" width="0">
    </td>
  </tr>

s.gif is a single (1x1) white pixel
