That's some real chutzpah. Usually when this happens -- a naturalist definitively claiming an animal went extinct long ago only to find a population of the animals living right under his nose -- the naturalist admits he made a mistake.
Not this guy, though... he doubles down and claims the animal re-evolved!

Majorcan Midwife Toad
Chacoan Peccary
Laotian Rock Rat (my favorite... proclaimed extinct for millions of years while, in reality, it was a common dish served by street carts.)
The Gracilidris ant. Extinct for millions of years and one of the primitive-proto ants... in reality, though, common as can be in S. America.
Monoplacophoran Mollusk... an ancient primitive life form extinct for 500 million years according the priests of evolution... then discovered in 1952...
Mountain Pygmy possum... fossils discovered snd proclaimed extinct for hundreds of thousands of years. Then found living near a ski resort.
Etc, etc, etc...
