I don't get this complaint at all. Between map and ternary expressions, you can get both loops and conditionals in your markup, e.g.

    <div>
      {listOfThings.map(thing => thing.isX ?
        <X thing={thing} />
        <Y thing={thing} />
      )}
    </div>
