- PHP is slow. Unlike JS, it's generally interpreted and not JIT (unless you're Facebook).

- Drupal has to bootstrap itself and all modules on every request.

- Drupal makes waaaaay too many SQL queries

- Drupal generates horribly performing SQL queries
